Quick Haul planning guide
How to prepare for a garage or basement cleanout
A simple checklist for sorting decisions, photo estimates, access planning and pickup day—with a real Akron basement cleanout.
Start with a clear plan for what stays.
You do not need to empty the room before asking for help. The most useful preparation is deciding what should stay, showing the whole job and explaining the way out. That helps our crew plan the labor and helps you get a quote for the actual cleanout.
Choose garage cleanout service for stored furniture, equipment and clutter, or basement cleanout service when stairs and interior carrying are part of the job.
1. Mark the items you want to keep.
Make three clear groups: keep, remove and undecided. Label shelving, tools, appliances or boxes that must stay. Set aside important paperwork, keys, photographs and valuables before the pickup. Make sure everyone helping with the property agrees on the removal list.
If a room contains both belongings to keep and items to remove, photograph it as it is and explain the labels. Avoid describing a mixed room as “everything” unless the entire contents are approved for removal.
2. Take photos that show the complete job.
- One wide photo from each corner of the room or garage.
- Close photos of large, heavy or unusual pieces.
- The staircase, doorway and any tight turn on the carrying route.
- The outside path, gate and possible truck parking area.
- Any additional pile in another room or outside.
Remove or cover visible personal paperwork before taking photos. Include your service address and preferred date with the request. We may ask for dimensions or another angle if the scope is unclear.
3. Explain access before moving heavy items.
Tell us which floor the items are on, how many stair flights are involved and whether there are narrow doors or long carries. Mention building access hours, an elevator reservation, a locked gate or parking restrictions.
Leave heavy pieces in their current location for the estimate instead of trying to carry them outside yourself. If something is attached, wired or connected to plumbing, tell us before booking. Do not disconnect a gas or electrical connection just to prepare for a quote; arrange appropriate qualified help where needed.
4. Identify materials that need approval.
Point out paint, chemicals, fuel, propane tanks, tires, electronics, heavy construction material and any unknown container. Keep them separate from ordinary clutter. Our regular service covers approved, non-hazardous items, and special materials need an acceptance decision before pickup.
Use the items we take guide to build your list. If material is not accepted, discuss a suitable disposal option before scheduling the remaining cleanout.

5. Confirm the scope, price and appointment.
Quick Haul has a $75 minimum. Larger cleanouts may be quoted by truck space, with handling and access considered. Read how junk removal pricing works and send the entire list for one combined estimate.
Before pickup, confirm what is included, which items stay and the available appointment time. Tell us about added items before the crew arrives. Same-day and next-day options depend on route space; submitting a form alone does not reserve a pickup.
On pickup day
- Make the agreed entry and parking area available.
- Keep children and pets away from the carrying route.
- Have the person authorized to approve removal available.
- Walk through the keep/remove labels with the crew.
- Confirm the final scope and price before loading begins.
You can focus on those decisions while our crew handles the agreed lifting and hauling. For an eligible curbside item you can prepare yourself, our Akron city-pickup comparison may help you choose another option.
